Real Madrid vs Villarreal prediction, odds and preview

Real Madrid host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night on Matchday 17 of the 2023/2024 La Liga season.

The hosts were held by Real Betis in a 1-1 draw last weekend at the Benito Villamarin meanwhile Villarreal suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos will go top of La Liga temporarily with a victory over Villarreal as leaders Girona are not in action against Deportivo Alavès until Monday night.

However, Villarreal will be confident moving into the match knowing they have suffered only one defeat in their last five games against Madrid, winning and drawing twice.

Los Blancos are unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions and will look to maintain that feat to win and move seven points clear of champions Barcelona in the League rankings come Sunday night.

The hosts will be without Dani Carvajal who is sidelined through injury with Lucas Vazquez in pole position to take his place at right back.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Submarines will most likely have Alexander Sorloth and Gerard Moreno leading their attack as a win could see Marcelino’s side move from 14th to 12th place in the standings.
