Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the Gunners showed immense effort to win despite their loss to West Ham United on Thursday night.

Tomas Soucek found the opener for David Moyes’ men before former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos extended the Hammers’ lead to 2-0.

The Gunners had opportunities to get back into the game but failed to convert their chances at the Emirates Stadium, denying them all three points and handing them a setback in the title race this season.

Speaking to the Press about Arsenal’s performance, Arteta said: “The team kept trying and they did everything they could to win the game and I don’t think that this scoreline reflects actually what happened on that pitch.”

The defeat means Arsenal lie in second place on the league standings, two points behind leaders Liverpool, and three points ahead of champions Manchester City who have a game in hand.

However, the Gunners will hope to make amends on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham.
