Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has backed forward Darwin Nunez to come good despite his recent drought in front of goal against Newcastle United.
The Uruguay international missed some clear-cut chances against the Magpies and failed to score from any of his five shots on target.
Nunez has been inconsistent in front of goal with just five goals to his name in 19 Premier League appearances this season.
His performance against Newcastle drew criticism once again but his boss has warned critics not to look down on the Uruguayan.
“Don’t doubt Núñez, it’s all fine. Darwin will score and there is no doubt about it, look at his assist… wow,” he said after the game.
“He gets questioned on social media and that disturbs slightly.”
The game also saw Mohamed Salah score a brace in his last game before departing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
His tally now stands at 14 goals in 20 games and the Egyptian was lauded by his boss.
“Salah? Mo is a goal-scoring machine. He will never stop doing these things. He is special,” the Reds boss added.
Liverpool will turn attention to FA Cup next when they face Arsenal on January 7.
