Captain of the Black Stars Andre Ayew says hoisting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy is his greatest desire after missing out on the opportunity in the last two finals.
Ayew represented Ghana in the 2010 and 2015 AFCON finals, which were lost to Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire, respectively.
Ayew underlined his ambition to win the AFCON championship and his commitment to the Black Stars ahead of his eighth appearance.
Speaking in a presser ahead of Ghana’s opening game at the 2023 AFCON against Cape Verde on Sunday, the Black Stars skipper said: “The dream I’m living is fabulous but if I want it to be great and to be at the pinnacle, before I hang boots, to be able to lift that trophy one day that’s my biggest dream.”
Ghana is in Group B with Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique and is aiming to bounce back from suffering its worst AFCON campaign at the 2021 AFCON where the four-time winners failed to win a game and exited at the group stage.
