Real Madrid will face Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia for the second year in a row.

Los Blancos qualified for Sunday’s showpiece event with an extra-time triumph over local rivals Atletico Madrid, while the Catalan giants defeated Osasuna in the semi-finals.

Madrid came back from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead thanks to Antonio Rudiger and Ferland Mendy, but they looked ready to lose to Atleti for the second time this season after Antoine Griezmann equalised and Rudiger scored an own goal.

However, just as it appeared that Real Madrid’s Super Cup chances were dwindling, Dani Carvajal equalised in the 85th minute, before replacements Joselu and Brahim Diaz scored in extra time to seal Real Madrid’s first-ever Spanish Super Cup victory over their local rivals.

Barcelona have the chance to win the Super Cup for the second year in a row after ending their five-year wait last season with a 2-0 triumph over Osasuna in Thursday’s semi-final.

Just shy of the hour mark, Robert Lewandowski scored his 11th goal of the season, before substitute Lamine Yamal scored in stoppage time to seal Barcelona’s third consecutive victory in all competitions.

Yamal’s late strike proved crucial for Xavi’s team, as it helped them record their first win by a two-goal margin or more since a 5-0 triumph over Royal Antwerp in the Champions League.

The meeting is scheduled for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
