Senegal will kickstart their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign when they face Gambia on Monday afternoon at Stade de Yamoussoukro.
The Teranga Lions will hope to begin their title defence with a victory in Group C under Aliou Cisse, who guided them to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2021.
Still considered one of the favourites at this edition, Senegal will be confident of making a statement in this tournament, knowing they possess notable names like Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson, and Pape Matar Sarr.
Moreover, Aliou Cisse’s team overcame Niger in a 1-0 win in a pre-tournament friendly, yet will have to emphasize their dominance over Tom Saintfiet’s side, if they want to be the first team to defend the title since Egypt in 2010.
Gambia on the other hand will be making their second appearance at this tournament after reaching the quarterfinals in 2021.
The Scorpions are known to be ball winners are resilient in defence, and will hope they can begin their campaign by upsetting the champions and proving a point to all in the ‘group of death’.
The game starts at 14:00 GMT.
