Burkina Faso face Mauritania in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Stade de Bouake in Ivory Coast.
The Stallions will look to go top of Group D after Algeria shared the spoils with Angola in a 1-1 result on Monday night.
Hubert Velud’s side finished in fourth place in the previous edition and approach this game on the back of a 2-1 win over DR Congo in a pre-tournament friendly.
Meanwhile, the Lions of Chinguetti played out a goalless draw with Tunisia before the tournament and will be seeking their first-ever win at this competition on Tuesday afternoon.
The Stallions have two wins and a draw in their last five matches against Mauritania and have suffered only one defeat in the process, making them favourites for this clash.
Dango Ouatarra and Bertrand Traore are expected to lead Hubert Velud’s side to the much-needed victory.
Meanwhile, Ibrahima Keita and Aboubakary Koita are the notable names in this Mauritania team that will look to cause trouble for the Stallions.
The match comes off at 14:00 GMT.
