Ghana head coach Chris Hughton says he is uncertain about the availability of midfielder Mohammed Kudus for the crucial encounter against Egypt.

The Black Stars will come up against the Pharaohs in their second group game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) looking to bounce back from opening day defeat.

Ghana lost 1-2 against Cape Verde, while Egypt drew 2-2 with Mozambique, however, Ghana was without key West Ham United midfielder Kudus for their opener.

Kudus was unable to join the team early for their pre-AFCON training camp in Kumasi due to a hamstring injury, but he has been training with the team since they arrived in Cote d’Ivoire.

However, Kudus featuring against the Pharaohs on Sunday remains a doubt.

“We will continue to assess Mohammed Kudus. He has trained the last few days. We will assess today and tomorrow and make a decision tomorrow (Thursday),” Hughton said at Wednesday’s press conference.

The Black Stars now sit bottom of Group B with no points after the first round of games and face Egypt in their next fixture on Thursday evening.
