An unending African rivalry sees Egypt take on Ghana in their second Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group game at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday.

The Pharaohs were held by Mozambique in their opening group game, meanwhile, the Black Stars fell short to a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde last Sunday.

Both teams have had a rough start to the competition and are in desperate need of a good result ahead of their final games against Cape Verde and Mozambique respectively.

Egyptian marksman Mohamed Salah rescued a point for the Pharaohs in the dying embers of their group opener and will look to lead his side to their first win in this competition.

Chris Hughton’s setup against Cape Verde may have failed his team in their first game, as the BlackStars gave away too many spaces and chances for the opposition to thrive on.

Alexander Djiku was the standout player in Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde and is expected to keep his place in the starting XI, meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus has fitness concerns and is to be assessed ahead of this clash to see if he can play a part for the West African side.

Ghana will hope they can avoid defeat in this clash to prevent them from securing three successive AFCON losses.

The match starts at 8:00 pm.
