Chris Hughton fails to blame individuals for Egypt draw

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has admitted mistakes are part of the game following his side’s draw against Egypt.

Ghana twice blew away their lead to settle for a draw in their second group game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Inaki Williams and Osman Bukari were at fault for the goals the Black Stars conceded against the Pharaohs as they gave the ball away on different occasions.

However, Hughton believes nit pointing fingers is the best thing to do.

“As a coach of a group of players, you feel frustrated because in performance…mistakes in the game are part of the game and you hope you make less mistakes than the other,” he said after the game.

“Sometimes teams can make a lot of mistakes and the opposition doesn’t capitalise on them. Unfortunately, through the mistakes we made today, the opposition was able to capitalise on them.

“But we have to accept [it’s] part of the game. You have to try to limit the amount of errors or mistakes that you make. And of course, the team that limits it the most is a team that has a better chance of winning.”

Ghana face Mozambique on Monday, January 22, in their last group game.
