Black Stars defender Denis Odoi has spoken out about the goals Ghana conceded against Mozambique in their final Group B encounter at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
The Club Brugge player labelled the two goals as dumb and stated that the team cannot compete if it conceded goals like they did.
Andre Ayew handed away a penalty in the 91st minute, and then Richard Ofori gifted Mozambique a corner by making contact with the ball as it headed out resulting in the equaliser.
It is now up to complex mathematics to determine if the Black Stars can advance to the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams, but their chances are limited.
Speaking to the reporters in the mixed zone after the game, Odoi was direct in his assessment.
“If you look at the goals we conceded, we can’t say we deserve any more. It’s just about the goals we conceded; they are stupid,” he said.
“Stupid mistakes and if you give away the balls like that, we cannot compete.”
Should Ghana fail to advance to the next stage, it will be the second consecutive time they exit the tournament in the group stage.
