Xabi Alonso is a doing fantastic job at Leverkusen – Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed the impact of Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen after their recent milestone.

Over the weekend, Alonso’s men set a new German unbeaten record as they are now unbeaten in 33 consecutive games in all competitions.

The recent figure sees them eclipse the record which was previously held by Bayern Munich as they continued their lead at the top of the league table.

Leverkusen have failed to win just four games in the league this season with all ending up in stalemates.

Alonso’s performance has now drawn plaudits from Guardiola.

“Wow! The job he’s doing, is fantastic,” said the Man City boss. “The only team unbeaten, fighting with Bayern. Now it’s the most important part of the season.”

“They cannot win the Bundesliga, they can lose it… because everybody thinks it’s done.”

Leverkusen currently boasts of an eight-point lead at the top of the table having amassed 63 points from 23 games played so far.
