Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United’s effort in their game against Manchester City was not enough to get them something from the fixture.
United lost 3-1 to their city rivals despite taking a 1-0 lead to halftime through Marcus Rashford’s brilliant strike.
Phil Foden scored twice before Erling Haaland added a third to claim all three points for the Cityzens at Etihad.
The result leaves United’s Champions League league dream further in doubt and their skipper believes individual brilliance played a big role for City.
“Obviously we’re disappointed,” he said after the defeat. “I think we could have got something from the game.
“I think the effort from the team was there. Everyone tried really hard to get the result today, but it wasn’t possible.
“I said at half-time I felt that the team was doing everything we could to defend our box.
“We know that at moments we had to defend deep and be together and be compact and help each other.
“We did it but obviously I think today the difference was the individual quality from the players of City that made them win this game.”
Erik ten Hag’s side are sixth on the league table, 11 points behind the last Champions League spot.
