‘Trust the club not me’ – Pochettino to Chelsea fans

Mauricio Pochettino has asked Chelsea fans to put their trust in the club and not him as they try to salvage something from the ongoing season.

The Blues made it to the semifinal of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon beating Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea let away a two-goal lead from the first half before substitutes Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke netted late in the game to seal a 4-2 win.

Pochettino was criticised by fans at the stadium for his decision to take off Mykhailo Mudryk in the 78th minute instead of Raheem Sterling, a move that eventually paid off.

However, speaking after the game, the Argentine trainer acknowledged the concerns of this supporters, asking them to get behind the team.

“The fans in football live on expectation and always wanting the best for the club and the player,” said Pochettino.

“When you don’t match the expectation, that is the difficult thing for our fans to understand. I talked in the past, I am strong, I have no problem. We are going to keep moving in the same direction.

“I hope in the next game that the fans are always unconditional behind the team because we are representing Chelsea.

“We are in a process where we want to make our fans happy and we are going to try. I hope we can create that from now until the end of the season, we can create a good connection with the fans.

“I don’t ask that they trust me, they need to trust in the club, because at the end if I am here that is because of the decision of the club.

“It is not to trust in me or to trust in the players, it is to trust the club, that the club is doing or thinks is good for the club. It is about to trust in everyone not only me.”

Chelsea will hope the FA Cup is a source of silverware at the end of the season.
