Griezmann left Barcelona because of financial situation – Xavi

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has revealed Antoine Griezmann leaving the club was due to their financial situation.

Barcelona’s relationship with Griezmann never really clicked.

After several difficult seasons, the French international decided to return to Atlético Madrid in 2021, on loan with the option to buy.

Since returning to Atletico Madrid, Griezmann has risen to the limelight again going on to become the club’s all-time top-scorer.

Speaking about the rationale behind the France international’s departure, Xavi said: “We decided to let Antoine Griezmann leave just because of the financial situation, the club had to let him go.”

“Griezmann is a player that I like a lot, but he left for that reason.”

Griezmann came off the bench last night as Barcelona beat Atletico to go second on the La Liga table.
