Haaland has a long way to reach Messi and Ronaldo – Pique

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says Erling Haaland will need to do more than he is currently doing if he is to be considered as good as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

The Manchester City forward is among a host of young players touted to be in the limelight after the dominance of Ronaldo and Messi.

The Norwegian international led City to their first Champions League triumph last season in the process of their treble win.

Despite not being as prolific as last season, Haaland still leads the scoring chart in the Premier League.

However, Pique believes the former Dortmund man will need to do more to enjoy the attention like Ronaldo and Messi did.

“Haaland has a lot of potential but to reach the level of Messi and Cristiano, he has a long way to go,” he said on Sky Sports.

“He has to win a lot of titles, he has to do it for 15, 17 or 20 years and it’s not easy. He’s very young, very promising and has a lot of potential but I still think he’s far from the level of those two [Cristiano and Messi].”
