Veteran manager Jose Mourinho says he has set for himself a goal to coach a national team before the end of his managerial career.

Mourinho has yet to handle any national team since beginning his managerial career despite coaching some of the best clubs in the world.

The 61-year-old has been linked with national head coach roles at some point in his career but has yet to accept any of the offers including one from his native Portugal.

However, Mourinho says he wouldn’t hesitate to pick up one now if the opportunity is presented to him.

“To coach a national team is an objective for me,” he told Fabrizio Romano.

“Maybe right before World Cup, Euros or the Copa America, African Cup… I can, yes.

“But waiting two years for that, I don’t know! Maybe one day it will happen.”

In his managerial career, the Portuguese has managed Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and a host of other clubs.

He also led Italian side Roma to their first European title before being fired during the 2023/24 season.
