Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is confident Lamine Yamal will be the commencement of a new project at the club.

At 16 years old, the youngster has made the headlines on several occasions, contributing to goals and assists for both club and country.

The Spain international has been directly involved in 13 goals for the Blaugrana side across all competitions this season, scoring six and assisting seven.

His performances have also seen him become a regular in Spain’s national team and Xavi is confident the player will kickstart an exciting era at the club.

“Lamine Yamal’s standing ovation at the Bernabeu? He’s showing that he’s a differential player. I see him talented, strong, humble,” Xavi said.

“He will definitely mark a new era here at Barça.”

Since announcing he will leave the club at the end of the season, Barcelona are yet to lose a game under Xavi.

However, the former Spain midfielder says the recent results have not changed his decision.

“I’m grateful to the club, the president, Deco. But nothing is changing about my decision now,” he added.

“There are no substantial changes, but the key word for me is thanks. I’m really grateful.”
