The US Open organizers indicated they would “respect” American government regulations regarding the travel of unvaccinated athletes, so Novak Djokovic is likely to miss the tournament.

Non-citizens must have a Covid-19 vaccination in order to enter the US.

Djokovic missed the Australian Open earlier this year because he is not immunized.

In July, the 35-year-old Serb who won Wimbledon stated he will “hopefully wait for some good news.”

The New York event runs from August 29 until September 11.

Djokovic has won the US Open three times, but his inclusion on the entrance list for the year’s last Grand Slam is merely customary and does not guarantee that he will be permitted to compete.

A statement from the tournament, which does not have its own vaccination rules, read: “Per the Grand Slam Rule Book, all eligible players are automatically entered into the men’s and women’s singles main draw fields based on ranking 42 days prior to the first Monday of the event.

“The US Open does not have a vaccination mandate in place for players, but it will respect the US government’s position regarding travel into the country for unvaccinated non-US citizens.”

Djokovic’s win at Wimbledon took him to 21 Grand Slam titles, one behind Rafael Nadal on 22.
