Erling Haaland could still face Liverpool on Saturday

31 March 2023

Despite missing training this week due to a groin injury, Erling Haaland can still be ready for Manchester City’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

The severity of Haaland’s injury and the length of Phil Foden’s recovery from surgery to remove his appendix have both been verified by Pep Guardiola. Foden will undoubtedly miss the match against Liverpool, and Haaland will be examined on Friday before the Saturday midday start.

Haaland withdrew from Norway’s international matches last week due to a groin injury sustained during City’s FA Cup victory against Burnley. Since his return to the Etihad, he hasn’t trained. Guardiola claimed he had his doubts about playing Liverpool.

Guardiola provided an update on both players ruling out Foden who is expected to be out for a slightly lengthier period.

“Phil had the surgery, and Erling is recovering,” Guardiola said. “[On Friday] we have the last training session and we will see how he feels.”

Haaland is feeling fine, and Guardiola intimated that he would be willing to take a chance with him if given the opportunity to play.

“We see today, at the end the doctors and the player will decide how he feels,” he said. “I spoke with him, he feels good. We will see. Life is risk in these stages, we have to take it.'”

Manchester City could close the gap at the top to five points before leaders Arsenal welcome Leeds Untied on Saturday.
